Since 2001, the Masters Exchange has brought distinguished established choreographers and interdisciplinary performance artists to Philadelphia to mentor SHMD’s resident choreographers and alumni.

In these sessions, choreographers-in-residence present segments of works in progress for feedback from the visiting masters. Attendees also dialogue intensively with the professionals  about choices, risk, audience awareness, and other aspects of the artistic process, and they frequently are involved in group exercises.

Artists who have led Masters Exchange sessions include Ron K. Brown, Lucinda Childs, Siobhan Davies, Kyle DeCamp, Simon Dove, Simone Forti, Andre Gingras, Ralph Lemon, Susan Marshall, and Wendy Rogers. A list of the most recent mentors appears below.
